Oh my goodness! So I'm officially moved out of my parents home and almost fully settled in my new one. But man are both rooms a mess! Moving is hard work, especially when you have (or should i say had) a lot of stuff. Its amazing what living in a minimal way can do. I actually have room in the smaller closet of my new home and way less stuff lying around. Actually, I still have to put together a dresser and hang up a couple of things on my wall. But, thankfully my mom came over and helped me with some of the decor in my room. No worries...once it's done I'll take a picture and post it.
Back to getting rid of stuff...
I realized I had all of these unnecessary little things lying around. Trinkets. Picture Frames. Candles. Little Boxes. Souvenirs From Various Countries.... you name it. I had to say goodbye to a lot of those little unnecessary things. My new room has 2 picture frames, 2 trinkets, no candles, 2 little boxes, 1 souvenir from China, and 1 jewelry stand. I won't even begin to share how many little things I got rid of. I am so glad I did. I'm far from perfect and I can almost guarantee you my room at some point might have a little too much, but its never to late to begin living in a minimal manner.
Where does my treasure lie? Is my heart right before God? Can I give more than I can get? The bible says where your treasure is there your heart will be also (Matt. 6:21). I still struggle with this. Even if it's stuff I need. Is it the best stuff out there? Do I have to shop the most expensive groceries? It really humbled me buying groceries this week. For the first time in months I bought my own groceries without my parents help. When living with them I would shop at Sprouts and buy organic because it's the best. Well this week only some of the stuff I bought was organic. I had to buy discount groceries. Does my joy and trust lie in the One who provides all things? Am I even grateful for that food before I eat it or even pay for it? "their God is their stomach...their mind is set on earthly things..." (Phil. 3:19).
God is always teaching me things and always will be. Its not so much the stuff that is bad, but the heart and reasoning behind why you have it.
God wants us to check our hearts and see what unnecessary little things need to be cleaned out of them. What are your gods? Is it your stuff? The people in your life? The food you eat? I want to encourage you now to silence yourself and search yourself. You'll know.
