Boy Meets Girl: My Brother In Christ

"The evil in our desire typically does not lie in what we want, but in that we want it too much." -John Calvin

But God...I want him to be my future husband! I want you to bless my choice for a husband!...All of this sounds selfish. I had to look within my heart in reading the 4th chapter of Boy Meets Girl. Just like the young lady thought what she wanted was the right choice or the way she viewed the man she wanted to marry in the wrong way, I can relate. For so long I was looking at this young man as someone whom I could see myself marrying. He was my choice. In reading this chapter, God revealed to me my sin and showed me the only way I should view a young man is as MY BROTHER IN CHRIST first and foremost. 2 things:

1) Remember, God is interested in the journey, not just the destination. So many times we want to get straight to the point of being married without taking the journey. Our journey to and through marriage is one God uses to refine us, sanctify us, and increase our faith. God wants me to submit my emotions to Him instead of assuming He will bless my choice. He wants me to pray for the man like any other brother in Christ and start there.

2) Our romanticized ideal of what we want in a spouse is often different from what God says matters. Those who choose a spouse based on external and fleeting concerns experience much grief. This is something I have already been aware of. For the first time about a year ago, I had an attraction to someone for his character. He was wise, humble, smart, kind, and compassionate. And for the first time I was on the right track. Marry someone with Godly character.

Let God write your love story, it'll come out way better than if you did.
