I was sitting at starbucks with a friend when she told me that she told the guy she's interested in "I love you." I was ready to jump at her with all my views and had to really think before I spoke. I realized, I was like that. I had done the same thing at one point. I said "I love you" to my friend at the time before we were even together...and what's worse?...I did it over instant message on the computer. I'll never forget the dead silence...well actually it was already quiet since it was over the computer...I'll never forget the avoided response. I was doing the pursuing, I was being the man. He never told me "I love you" back. From that day on I made a note to myself to never tell a guy "I love you" unless he says it first, if I really mean it. You have to know what true love is before you can toy with using the words "I love you". "I love you" in a womans eyes is like saying "will you marry me?" Boys, don't toy with a girls heart, girls be patient and let the man speak up. I have learned from my past mistakes...One time a guy kissed me and thought in my head "I love you". I never said it though because I caught myself thinking that only because I had felt it. I had to guard my heart and refrain from voicing the lies that kissing equals love. Just as sex doesn't equal love, kissing doesn't equal love either. Love always should come first and the kissing and sex is a symbol or result of that love you have for a person. Sex in marriage, and for some, kissing in marriage.
Anyhow, I told my friend I did the same thing. I didn't have the right words to tell her why I believed it was wrong, I never really had time to think about it. She just told me so suddenly and wanted a response then and there. I told her I strongly believed that the man should do the pursuing but never told her that its because of the God given roles he gave to us as men and women. I plan on talking to her about it now that I've read about it and thought about it more.
Living out our God given roles means obeying God's Word. Just as we would obey other parts of his Word we need to follow the roles He's given to us as men and ladies. This does not mean men are greater and woman are less. God created us both in His image and equal. We were made to complement eachother. Take this quote for example: "Eve was not taken out of Adam's head to top him, neither out of his feet to be trampled by him, but out of his side to be equal with him, under his arm to be protected by him, and near his heart to be loved by him." Just like I learned that the man needs to pursue the woman, I now know that it will feel great when I hear it uttered by my future husband because it's the way God designed it to be. When you obey God's Word everything you do is a praise to His Name and a joy on your behalf. Boys, lets be men. Girls, lets be ladies.
