40/40 Fast

One thing I learned tonight is that I have idols. God reveals to me when I am putting things before Him. So, I'm trying something new. I usually fast from something whether thats tv, facebook, food, etc.; for a week, but God wants something more from me. I have been looking at the temptation and fast of Jesus Christ in the gospels. It has prompted me to do a 40/40 fast. 40 days and 40 nights fast from facebook. He confirmed what He already revealed to me by someone at this freedom conference I was at today. He also confirmed it when I kept reading the repetition of "Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts" (Heb. 3:17,15 & 4:7).

Now, an idol is anything we put before God. I don't want to anger my God or make Him jealous with detestable idols (Dt. 32:16). He deserves all of me, not my leftovers. Because the heart is so deceitful, it is easy to let it get hardened. But, I'm asking you to join me in a 40/40. God will reveal to you as He did to me exactly what needs to be surrendered and given up during your fast.

Take a look at Jesus' fast. It was not just from one thing, it was from many things. If you know God is asking you to fast from many things then obey Him. He fasted from everything. Where did He sleep? He was in the wilderness. Who did he have relationships with? He was alone. When you fast He is your way out of temptation.

Heb.4:15 "For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are--yet was without sin."

With Him, all things are possible.

Hello Rochelle, I just found your blog and I am loving it. I have just been thinking about a fast, also. Not from food, but from other things, mostly self-condemnation.
I, too, have a blog on being sweetly broken. It has been quite a journey learning to let God love me and heal the wounds left from my parents' divorces. But it's a journey that never ends. So thank God for His grace.
Anyway, I put this whole journey into a book that's at sweetlybrokengirl.blogspot.com. It is my hope and prayer that others may find God's love, healing and truth through it. If you have a chance, check it out. And I am enjoying the encouragement that I am finding in your blog. I will come back to read the older posts! Take care and God bless, Heather K

Heather! That is so great you wrote a book about your experiences (2) in fact! I am currently reading many books so i am not free to read yours now, but one day I would love to, soon! I know what you mean about fasting from self condemnation. I want to be more real with you about my life but just don't think this is the setting. Do you have an e-mail?
